Myron Silberstein (Music Director). Myron
Silberstein’s career as a concert pianist, accompanist, teacher, and composer
has spanned over twenty years. First coming to prominence in 1991 upon winning
the Giornate Musicali International Piano Competition in Sperlonga, Italy, Mr.
Silberstein's full-length European debut followed in 1992. His 1993 recital at
Weill Recital Hall of Carnegie Hall attracted the attention of Connoisseur
Society Records, for which he recorded works by Franck, Bloch, and Giannini in
1994. This recording was named to Fanfare Magazine's “Want List” of 1996 and
was cited by critic Peter J. Rabinowitz as the best debut recording of the
year.
As
a collaborative pianist, Myron Silberstein has coached vocalists ranging from
high-school students to members of Chicago Lyric Opera’s Core Chorus. He has
been Resident Musical Director for Chicago Opera Vanguard and is General
Manager of VOX 3 Vocal Music Collective, for which he also serves as
accompanist, vocal coach, and composer.
Myron
Silberstein's vocal and chamber compositions have been performed throughout the
United States and Europe. He is the resident composer for Storycatchers
Theatre, for which he has written half a dozen one-act musicals. Myron
Silberstein is a member of ASCAP.
Myron
Silberstein holds a B.A. from the University of Pittsburgh and an M.A. in
Social Thought from the University of Chicago. His academic essays on subjects
as diverse as musicology, religion, and Shakespearean rhetoric have been
published in peer-reviewed journals such as Modern
Philology and Streams of William
James.
Mr.
Silberstein is currently preparing a program of the complete solo piano works
of Peter Mennin and Norman Lloyd, to be recording this summer.
